About This Job

Description

CONSTRUCTION MANAGER, FIBER

Most construction managers inherit a schedule someone else built and a set of contractors someone else hired. This one does not.

SpaceX builds its own launch sites, factories, test stands, and AI superclusters — and it plans to keep building. The rockets, the chips, and the missions only matter if the ground under them is real. Construction is how that ground gets built, to a standard the company can actually use. The work does not dry up between jobs. There is a next site, and one after that.

You are the senior construction lead for the fiber scope. You own the site relationships, the vendors, and the outcome. You report to central construction leadership, and that line can shift as the project evolves. You are on the job, walking the work, and clearing what is in the way.

Scope includes, but not limited to fiber optic backbone and horizontal cabling, pathways, splicing, testing, certification, and handover documentation for the data center.

Right now the job is the data center in Memphis, Tennessee. Later work can move to other U.S. construction sites.

Act as the senior construction representative for the Memphis data center fiber scope, managing relationships with contractors, partners, and internal stakeholders

Oversee fiber execution from pre-construction and site development through testing, certification, and handover

Coordinate multiple vendors so field and technical teams stay aligned on fiber backbone, horizontal cabling, pathways, splicing, and testing

Identify and mitigate risks to quality, safety, system integrity, and operational readiness

Drive progress on the fiber scope and resolve roadblocks so the schedule holds

Align the fiber schedule with SpaceXSI's infrastructure goals through cross-functional collaboration

Partner with teams on commissioning and close issues as they come up

Deliver regular updates with clear KPIs and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders

Hold the work to the technical and quality standards in the base design

Perform quantity take-offs and field verifications to track progress and support reporting

Manage change orders, cut unnecessary changes, and control cost

Lead site safety around fiber installation, splicing, testing, and work at heights

Support cross-functional partners as the project requires

5+ years of experience managing data center or construction projects

Experience managing large-scale data center or mission-critical construction projects

Certification in fiber optics and/or cable installation (FOA, BICSI, or equivalent)

Advanced expertise in fiber splicing, OTDR testing, and certification procedures

Deep technical knowledge of hyperscale data center networking, structured cabling, and fiber infrastructure

Experience in AI/HPC data centers or other mission-critical facilities

Highly proficient using a light meter, OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), OPMs (optical power meter), fiber certifier, loopback, and optical probes

Knowledge of different fiber types, proper cleaning/validation techniques, switches, and port identifications

Proficiency with computers, fiber management software, and electronic testing systems

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills

Deep expertise in construction management, commissioning, and site operations

Proven ability to lead on-site with authority and build trust with vendors, partners, and technical teams

Experience managing large programs with multiple vendors and dynamic priorities

Strong communication skills across disciplines, from field updates to technical escalations

Thrives in solving complex, real-time problems with adaptability and composure

Previous experience in data center construction or highly technical facilities

Familiarity with local Memphis building codes and regulations

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle complex construction challenges

Position is subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing

Position is subject to pre-employment and annual post-employment background checks

Comfortable working in an environment requiring exposure to noise

Available to work evenings and weekends, as the schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility is required

Ability to lift at least 25 lbs

Must be willing to travel as needed

This is a full-time, onsite role based in Memphis, Tennessee, with relocation required depending on additional construction locations within the US
